Homeless Courts

Description

Provides a special virtual Superior Court session for homeless individuals to resolve outstanding Contra Costa County infraction tickets that rise out of the condition of homelessness. Infractions only, no misdemeanors, felonies, parking tickets. See eligibility for details.

Hours

Office: Monday-Friday, 8am - 5pm; Court will inform agency when client must appear in court.

See case manager.

Eligibility

Must be currently homeless or have tickets that originated during the time of their homelessness. Must have completed at least 90 days of continuous, satisfactory participation in a treatment or self-help program i.e., shelter, substance abuse program. Must be referred to Homeless Court by a case manager from said treatment or self-help program.

Intake Procedure

Clients must be referred by a case manager from said treatment or self-help program. Case managers must screen applicants for eligibility and refer only those they feel are appropriate for Homeless Court. Case managers must fax or email a Homeless Court application and Letter of Advocacy, on agency letterhead, which confirms that client has been receiving services and has been in full compliance with program for at least ninety days, and is ready for the next step toward self-sufficiency. Case manager will be notified if client is accepted and scheduled for a homeless court session.
