LPS Conservatorship Assistance

Programs that provide assistance for people who are in favor or want to oppose the appointment of a conservator to manage the personal and financial affairs of an adult who is gravely disabled due to a mental disorder. People are considered gravely disabled when they are unable to provide for their basic needs (food, clothing, and shelter) without assistance because of a mental disorder and are unable or unwilling to accept psychiatric treatment voluntarily. The purpose of this type of conservatorship is to provide for the mental health care of the individual, which may include involuntary detention in a mental health treatment facility, and to protect and administer the individual's estate.

Probate Conservatorship Assistance

Programs that provide assistance for people who are in favor or want to oppose the appointment of a conservator to manage the personal and/or financial affairs of an adult who is incapable of doing so due to poor health, senility or other disabling conditions. Individuals or organizations appointed as "conservators of the person" are responsible for the person's care, maintenance, custody and control and provide for the person's living arrangements, food, clothing, medical care and other basic needs. Those appointed as "conservators of the estate" are responsible for the prudent management of the money and property belonging to the individual.
