Description:
Educates, empowers, and motivates mental health consumers to engage in their own individual recovery and become active in the community. Offers SPIRIT program which teaches mental health consumers skills that they need to become peer-providers in the mental health field. It has both a classroom and an on-the-job internship component, and students receive nine hours of credit through Contra Costa College. Provides Wellness and Recovery Education for Acceptance to Choice and Hope (WREACH) training to staff and contract providers in the practical implementation of recovery principles, client-centered approaches when working with clients, understanding client culture, utilization of wellness tools (such as the Wellness Recovery Action Plan), and direct education by consumers, who provide a presentation of their recovery stories, and what type of supports and treatment have helped them in the past.
