Description

Offers short term financial assistance and case management for families and individuals facing a housing crisis through no fault of their own. Assistance is to help prevent homelessness for households at immediate risk of homelessness. If person or household receives TANF/CalWORKs, IHSS, CAPI, or ILSP, or other EHSD program benefit, they should also request financial assistance through their worker at the Contra Costa County Employment and Human Services Department because these programs may better meet their need.Offers short term financial assistance and case management for families and individuals facing a housing crisis through no fault of their own. Assistance is to help prevent homelessness for households at immediate risk of homelessness and rapidly re-house homeless households. Due to Coronavirus COVID-19, provides past due rent, current month's rent, future month's rent, outstanding utility bills, gift cards for families who are food insecure and funds for short-term hotel accommodations. Clients must call COVID-19 hotline for assistance.

Intake (backdoor number): Monday-Friday, 9-4pm; except holidays

Required Documents

Valid identification, social security, pay stubs or other proof of income, proof of crisis that cause being behind in rent (documents) or proof of crisis that cause to find a new place (documents), other document may apply for adults. Social security cards and birth certificates for children. For Covid-19 assistance: proof of being affected by virus.

Eligibility

Must be at risk of becoming homeless due to circumstances that are out of clients control. In order for SHELTER, Inc. to provide financial assistance, participants must be able to demonstrate financial self-sufficiency (ability to pay rent without financial assistance) moving forward and show proof of the reason why they are behind in their rent. For Covid-19 assistance: must prove being affected by virus and not able to pay past, present, and/or future rent.

Call backdoor number for Covid-19. Call main number for all other assistance not affected by Covid-19. Leave a voice message with call back information. Full intake is usually conducted by a case manager.
