Description

Provides a vocational, behavioral program specializing in serving consumers who have not succeeded in other entry level vocational programs. The program starts with an emphasis on hospitality and entertainment. When consumers feel safe and stimulated, they are open to learning. In overcoming their developmental disabilities, consumers represent the full range of functional and adaptive levels. For some, training may entail acquiring skills in self-control, communication, self-care, cooking and shopping, etc. For others, the focus may be on learning to operate a computer or cash register in preparation for independent employment. Training modalities include delivering Meals on Wheels, janitorial work at a neighborhood pizza restaurant, landscaping at a national park, detailing vehicles, and production work. A Better Chance (ABC) Day Program includes numerous opportunities for social and personal development. The program is supported by the by Regional Center of the East Bay and Golden Gate Regional Center.
