Examples of biomedical engineering include the design and manufacture of cardiac pacemakers, defibrillators, artificial limbs and joints, prosthetic blood vessels, hearing aids and other similar devices; computer systems to monitor patients during surgery or intensive care; advanced imaging systems; computer-assisted diagnostic tools; and laser tools for use in surgery.
